Top-down listening activities, such as relying on context or world knowledge before listening to a recording, have traditionally dominated in our classrooms. But does relying on top-down skills make our students better listeners? In this session we will explore the often-overlooked role of bottom-up listening skills (recognising sounds, syllables, structures etc.). So, lend me your ears and let’s run through some activities developing bottom-up skills that make our learners better at listening tasks.
